There is a large list of free hosting providers herehttp://www.free-webhosts.com/
With free hosting you will invariably have to make do with a sub domain and lots of third party ads crowding your site – there are a few exceptions to this.
There are a huge number of cheap hosting offers available nowadays, many offering free domain names as part of their packages. Without knowing exactly what you are intending to use your hosting for, nobody can give you a definitive answer on the best solution for you.

If you want a custom domain name, you’ll have to pay for it. I don’t know of anyone who offers a free domain registration. If you use a free hosting site like 50webs.com they can host your custom domain from another company, or you can register a domain name directly with them for $15 a year.
I don’t think you can get a domain for free. I’ve seen some cheap ones though. You can get one at http://www.doggydomains.com for $1.99 when you get hosting which is like $6 a month. Or you can get one for $6.95 without hosting and it comes with free ad supported hosting.
